Q What is the difference between the State (Open) Cup and the USYS National Cup?
A
Both competitions are part of the Cal South State Competition. The principal difference between the two competitions is that the age group winners of the State Cup do not advance beyond the state level whereas the age group winners of the USYS National Cup advance to the USYS Regional and National championships. (State Cup Rule I)
Q
What happens to teams that submit their Cup Competition entry applications after the entry deadline?
A
Teams that submit their State Cup Competition entry applications after the entry deadline are put on the backup list and may be invited to participate to fill-in a bracket or replace a team that withdraws from the competition. There are, however, no guarantees that the team will participate in Cup Competition. (Cup Competition Rule III). There is no waiting list for National Cup. Teams that do not apply on time are ineligible to compete..
Q What happens to the bond fee that is paid to enter Cup Competition?
A Bond fee was eliminated in 2005
Q What referee fees are teams expected to pay to participate in the Cup Competition?
A
Teams are expected to pay the referee match fees as stated on the website under the "referee fees" link for all games until the age group championship game when the referee fees are paid by the Cal South. All referees are scheduled by Cal South and the applicable referee scheduling fees are paid by Cal South.
Q What are the relevant deadline dates affecting Cup Competition?
A

There are several deadlines that must be observed by teams wishing to enter Cup Competition. The actual dates are set each year by the Cal South Board of Directors.
Please refer to State (Open) Cup or National Cup pages for the latest key dates

Q When is a player officially tied to a team for purposes of participating in Cup Competition?
A
Players are cup-tied to their team once the team has entered Cup Competiton and participated in the draw, in either section of Cup Competition. Players who are cup-tied may transfer to any other team entered in Cup Competition after the draw, but are ineligible to play in Cup Competition. Teams on the waiting list also have their players cup-tied as of the date of the draw unless and until the team removes itself from the waiting list in writing to Cal South. Teams may accept previously unregistered players and players transferred from teams not entered in Cup Competition until the roster freeze date for the team's age group. All team roster changes must be physically in the State Office by 5pm on the Friday prior to the date of the draw. (see question below). (Cup Competition Rules III and IV)
Q What are roster freeze dates?
A
A roster freeze date is the last day that any previously unregistered players or player transferred from a team not entered in Cup Competition can be added to a team roster. This date depends on the Cup Competition age group which will be on a Friday, 7 days prior to the start of the competition for the particular age group. All final roster changes must be physically in the State Office by 5pm on the roster freeze date. No further changes can be made to a team's Cup Competition roster after the roster freeze date. (Cup Competition Rules III and IV)
Q How can I contact a Cup Competition Committee member?
A Go to the Cup Competition Committee Directory Page
Q What are the different levels of play such as Premier, AAA, or Gold?
A Premier = Highest level of play
AAA and Gold = Highest level of play for age groups without a Premier division
AA-A and Silver = Intermediate level of play
AA-B and Bronze = All other levels of play
Q When are the Cup Competition results updated?
A The results are usually entered onto the WEB one hour following conclusion of each game.
Q Why am I not getting the latest results after they have been posted?
A

A common reason is that many Internet Viewer programs (such as MOSAIC) will not re-load a web page from our server if it thinks your PC already has the latest version. It may think that it has the latest version even after your computer has been powered off and turned back on. To ensure that you have the latest page click the RELOAD function on your viewer. This will force the viewer to reload the page onto your computer.

In Netscape under the Network Preferences, you are given the option of when Netscape is to verify if it has the latest document. The default is once per session. If you override the default and indicate "never", Netscape will not show the latest document unless you click RELOAD. The best setting is the default, so everytime you connect to the WEB you will get the latest documents. Other browsers will have similar options.

Q When are the venue locations posted for an age group?
A
We will post the venues as soon as they are confirmed. This is typically two weeks before the first game.
Q Are game times posted on the internet?
A Yes. This site will be the sole source for much of the Cup Competition information.
Q What is the Cup Competition Hotline number?
A
The Hotline Number is 714/999-3444. This number is for weather related information only. For Schedule/Score and general information go to the Cal South web site State Tournaments @ www.calsouth.com
