  • UPDATE 10:40 AM 7/25/10 - Eagles SC U23 Women defeat Arizona Rush SC, 2-1 to take national title.

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (July 24, 2010) - UPDATED 2:30 PM - Live scoring updates from the 2010 United States Adult Soccer Association Under-23 National Cup Finals, which take place in Overland Park, Kansas from July 23-25. This year's U23 National Cup finals are being held in conjunction with the 2010 US Youth Soccer National Championships. There will be two days of preliminary matches, followed by the finals between the winners of Groups 1 and 2 in the Men's and Women's brackets on Sunday morning, July 25. Cal South has two teams in attendance at the U23 National Cup Finals: FC Hasental (Men's) and Eagles (Women's).

The Far West region, of which Cal South is one of fourteen state associations, will be represented this year by the Eagles SC and Arizona Rush. The Eagles team is attempting to become only the second side in the 31-year history of women's youth and adult championships ever to win three age-specific United States National soccer titles. Colorado Rush (Littleton, CO) won the U17, U18, & U19 Championships a decade ago (1999-2001). Sting SC (Dallas, TX) won the first ever title in 1980. Under head coach Vince Thomas and assistant Michael Alexander, the Eagles won two US Youth Soccer National titles - the Under 14 crown in 2004 and the Under 17 championship in 2007. They are a five-time State (Cal South National Cup) Champion (2004, '07, '08, '09, '10) and a two-time State (Cal South National Cup) Finalist (2005, '06).

Cal South, in conjunction with the USASA, helped provide subsidies of $4500 each to its two Under-23 teams. Cal South provided over $350,000 in subsidies and fees to its teams competing in the regional and national levels of the three national championship series being held this summer: the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Series, and the USASA U23 National Cup Series.

Live scoring updates for both events will be available on throughout the weekend.
