ALBUQUERQUE, NM (June 29, 2010) - Eight teams from Cal South captured half of the titles at the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Far West Regionals on Sunday, June 27 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Preliminary matches for the Far West Regionals were held from June 21-23, with each team in each age bracket playing three matches, followed by the quarterfinals on June 25 and the semi-finals on June 26.

Cal South began with a total of 33 teams entered in the tournament. 25 moved from the preliminaries to the quarterfinals, 17 moved on to the semi-finals, and then the remaining ten Cal South teams competed in ten different age brackets for a Far West Regional Championship trophy, going an overall 8-2 on the day. Four of the winning Cal South teams will continue play in the National Championship Series, since regional champions in the U14 to U19 age groups will move on to the crown jewel of youth soccer in America, the US Youth Soccer National Championships, which will be held next month in Overland Park, Kansas from July 18-25, 2010.

Cal South has donated over $200,000 thus far to their participants in both the Far West Regionals and the Region IV Presidents Cup. Sixteen of Cal South's Far West Regional participants were the winning teams in each age and gender division at the 2010 Cal South National Cup, the traditional means of reaching the Far West Regionals. Seventeen other wild card teams were selected this year, some as winners in the 2010 spring season of the Far West Regional League, some earned theirs spots as champions in the Far West Regional fall 2009 season, while the remainder were chosen through the Region IV draw process.
