FULLERTON, CA (May 21, 2010) - In keeping with its long-standing tradition of donating funds to aid teams in its membership who are traveling to regionally and nationally held championship events, Cal South announced the donation of roughly $210,000 to 47 youth and 7 adult teams involved in upcoming US Youth Soccer and United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) regional championship play.
Cal South will provide a total of $103,500 in subsidies to its 33 teams taking part in the 2010 US Youth Soccer Far West Regionals, to be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico from June 20-27. An additional total of $63,000 will go to the 14 Cal South teams attending the 2010 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Regionals in Medford, Oregon from July 18-25. The total youth figure of $195,425 also includes $28,925 paid by Cal South in entry fees in the names of the teams that qualified for both events.
For the first time ever, Cal South will be awarding $2000 apiece to seven adult teams which will travel to the 2010 USASA Region IV Cups to be held in Sacramento, California. The Men's Open division is being played this weekend from May 21-23, and the Men's Amateur, Men's Over 30, Men's and Women's Under 23 and Women's Cup will be held from June 4-6.
Often considered "the ultimate in membership benefits" to leagues and clubs in Cal South, these donations are made annually in order to ease the burden of traveling expenses for these teams as they compete for a spot in their respective championships. All of the funds for these donations are derived from entry fees gathered at the Cal South State Cup, National Cup and Adult State Cup competitions.
The breakdown of the donations this year amounts to $4500 for each of the 16 Cal South National Cup champions and two wild card recipients attending the Far West Regionals, and $1500 for each of the 15 teams that earned wild card status for the event by their success in the Far West Regional League circuit, in either the Fall 2009 or Spring 2010 seasons. Cal South also donated the sum of $4500 to each of the ten Cal South State Cup Presidents Cup division champions and four wild card recipients that are set to attend the Presidents Cup Regionals.
"We are more than eager to help our teams that qualified for these regional events to hopefully carry their success to the national level," said Cal South President Johnnie Garza. "Cal South's ultimate purpose is to provide for our member leagues and clubs in these situations. On behalf of the entire Cal South board of directors, State Tournaments committee and staff, I wish all of these teams the best of luck at all three of these prestigious regional events."
Cal South National Cup champions (U12-U19) move on to the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Far West Regionals. Regional champions in the U14 to U19 age groups will move on to the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series National Championships, to be held in Overland Park, Kansas from July 18-25, 2010.
Presidents Cup Division champions in the U13 through U17 age groups move on to represent Cal South in the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Regionals. Cal South teams U14 through U17 who win the Region IV Presidents Cup will then represent Cal South and Region IV in the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup National Finals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to be held July 8-11, 2010.
