CAL SOUTH'S CESAR CALDERON NAMED U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY REFEREE OF THE WEEK FOR THE WEEK OF FEB. 8

febrero 12, 2010

Referee of the Week: Cesar Calderon
Hometown: Norwalk, Calif.
Grade: 5

Cesar Calderon has been selected as the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Referee of the Week for an extraordinary performance in the game between Real So Cal and Irvine Strikers on Jan. 30.

Cesar began officiating in 2005. In addition to working the 2009 Development Academy Finals Week in Carson, Calif., Cesar has also officiated W-League, PDL, and youth regional and national matches. Though Cesar's long-term goal is to become a FIFA referee and officiate in the World Cup, he recognizes that it will take additional training, experience and most importantly, dedication to achieve his aim.

"Officiating Development Academy games is a good start to my long-term goal," Cesar commented. "The games are very competitive in all aspects. The Academy games challenge the referee to concentrate for 90 minutes. The atmosphere before, during and after the game is always professional. This gives the referee a head start on what to expect if the referee reaches the professional league."
