Q. What is the difference between the State Cup and the National Cup?
A. Both competitions are part of the Cal South State Competition. The principal difference between the two competitions is that the winners of the State Cup in the U13-U17 age group advance to the US Youth Soccer President's Cup Regionals and Nationals, whereas the U12-U19 age group winners of the National Cup advance to the US Youth Soccer Regionals and National Championships (U14-U19). Q. What happens to teams that submit their Cup Competition entry applications after the entry deadline?
A. Teams that submit their State Cup Competition entry applications after the entry deadline are put on the backup list and may be invited to participate to fill in a bracket or replace a team that withdraws from the competition. There are, however, no guarantees that the team will participate in Cup Competition. (Cup Competition Rule III). There is no waiting list for National Cup. Teams that do not apply on time are ineligible to compete.
Q. What happens to the entry fee that is paid to enter Cup Competition if a team drops?
A. Teams withdrawing prior to the draw, but after the registration deadline, will be assessed $125.00 administrative fee. Teams withdrawing after the bracket draw date shall forfeit their entire entry fee.
Q. What are the procedure to drop from the tournaments?
A. Teams must notify the Cup Chairperson in writing (by email) of their request to withdraw from competition. Verbal request will not be accepted.
Q. What referee fees are teams expected to pay to participate in the Cup Competition?
A. Teams are expected to pay the referee match fees as stated on the website under the "Referee Fees" link for all games until each age group's championship game, when the referee fees are paid by Cal South. All referees are scheduled by Cal South and the applicable referee scheduling fees are paid by Cal South.
Q. What are the relevant deadline dates affecting Cup Competition?
A. There are several deadlines that must be observed by teams wishing to enter Cup Competition. The actual dates are set each year by the Cal South Board of Directors. Please refer to State Cup or National Cup pages for the latest key date.
Q. When is a player officially tied to a team for purposes of participating in Cup Competition?
A. Players are cup-tied to their team once the team has entered Cup Competition and participated in the draw, in either section of Cup Competition. Players who are cup-tied may transfer to any other team entered in Cup Competition after the draw, but are ineligible to play in Cup Competition. Teams on the waiting list also have their players cup-tied as of the date of the draw unless and until the team removes itself from the waiting list in writing to Cal South. Teams may accept previously unregistered players and players transferred from teams not entered in Cup Competition until the roster freeze date for the team's age group. All changes to team rosters, adds, transfers, etc., including electronically posted changes to tournament entries, team rosters, adds, transfers, etc., made via the internet, must be posted by 6:00pm on the day prior to the draw (see question below). Q. What are roster freeze dates?
A. Roster freeze date is the last day that any previously unregistered players or player transferred from a team not entered in Cup Competition can be added to a team roster. This date depends on the Cup Competition age group which will be nine (9) days prior to the start of the competition for the particular age group. All changes to team rosters, adds, transfers, etc., including electronically posted changes to tournament entries, team rosters, adds, transfers, etc., made via the internet, must be posted by 6:00pm on Wednesday, nine (9) days prior to the start of competition (if competition starts on Saturday), or 6:00 Thursday, nine (9) days prior to the start of competition (if competition starts on Sunday). Q. How can our team play on our home fields?
A. If your club has 4 or more fields and is willing to supply volunteers to help with the games, we will, in return, schedule your club's teams to play on your home fields. For more information, read the "Hosting Requirements".

Q. What are the different levels of play such as Premier, AAA, or Gold?
A. Premier = Highest level of play
AAA and Gold = Highest level of play for age groups without a Premier division
AA-A and Silver Elite= Intermediate level of play
AA-B Silver and Bronze = All other levels of play
Q. When are the Cup Competition results updated?
A. The results are usually entered onto the WEB one hour following conclusion of each game.
Q. When are the venue locations posted for an age group?
A. We will post the venues as soon as they are confirmed. This is typically two weeks before the first game.
Q. Are game times posted on the internet?
Yes. This site will be the sole source for much of the Cup Competition information.
