(October 14, 2011) - A woman who loved family and soccer, Michele Fast, was among the victims of the Seal Beach shooting that killed eight, friends confirmed on Thursday.
Fast, 47, a mother of three from Seal Beach, who worked at the salon where the shooting occurred, was strongly involved in youth soccer leagues, including the Long Beach-based Beach Futbol Club, where her daughter Lisa played.
On Thursday the club's website read, in part:: "It is with great sadness that we write to let you know that one of the victims in the senseless Seal Beach tragedy was Michele Fast, wife of Patrick Fast, who manages our Girls U16 White team, and mother of Lisa Fast, a player on that team. Please keep the Fast family in your prayers."
Grief counselors also were on hand at Los Alamitos High School, where family friends said Lisa is a junior at the school. School district officials confirmed that counselors were on hand.
Eddie Soto, a longtime friend who met Michele Fast and her husband, Patrick, when their children began playing soccer together in Huntington Beach, said Michele was devoted to her children.
"She loved her family and she loved this (Seal Beach) community," said Soto, a Seal Beach resident and program director in the Beach Futbol Club. "She would do anything for her kids."
Fast's involvement with her children's sports teams translated into long hours, hauling her son and two daughters to soccer and basketball games and volunteering whenever possible.
