CAL SOUTH SOCCER MAGAZINE SEPTEMBER 2011 ISSUE PREVIEW September 08, 2011
Featured on the cover of our Fall Kick-Off issue are the BU14 Fullerton Rangers as they hoist up the William J. "Billy" Goaziou Cup at the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona in July. The Rangers were one of six teams from Cal South that won national titles this summer, all of whom are showcased in this issue. We not only have coverage and photos from the National Championships, but also of our three teams that won titles at the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup and our two teams that won 2011 United States Adult Soccer Association National Cup titles, including the Women's U-23 Eagles SC, who won their record fourth age-specific national championship title.
The big talk these days surrounding U.S. Soccer is player development (see our feature article in our May issue as well). For the September issue, we were interested in how the coaches of many of our teams that competed at the national championship level juggled the demands for their team to be instantly successful with the far more patient notion of developing players for future success throughout their lives, not just in the present. While Rangers coach Jimmy Obleda's thoughts on this
topic are the focus of the feature article, we also posed a series of questions to several other coaches, including Corona Eagles coach Ernie Parra, So Cal Blues coach Dido Tshimanga, Slammers coach Walid Khoury and Albion coach Noah Gins. We hope you find their answers enlightening.
