CALIFORNIA COLLEGE SOCCER ROUND-UP
November 29, 2010 - Some updates from this past weekend's playoff college soccer matches involving teams from local schools. The NCAA Men's College Cup Semi-finals and Finals will be held in Santa Barbara on Dec. 10 & 12, 2010.
Men's Division I
UC Berkeley and UCLA men's soccer teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's College Cup tournament over the weekend with victories over Ivy League opponents. Sixth-seeded Cal defeated Brown 2-0 at home and will play third-seeded Akron in Akron on Saturday, December 4. Eighth-seeded UCLA went into the second overtime before Eder Arreola, a Cal South alum and US Youth Soccer National Champion with CZ Elite, scored his second goal of the game with eight seconds left to secure a
2-1 win over Dartmouth. UCLA's quarterfinal opponent is top-seeded Louisville at the Cardinals' home field on December 4. All semi-final matches for the College Cup will take place on Friday, December 10 at UC Santa Barbara, with the championship match to be contested on Sunday, December 12. Cal South, the LA84 Foundation and the NSCAA will be presenting a specialty coaching course in conjunction with the College Cup on December 12 at UC Santa Barbara. The specialty course will feature clinicians such as former US Men's National head coach Steve Sampson, former EPL star and ESPN commentator Robbie Earle, NSCAA Senior National Coaching Academy staff member George Perry and US National Team staff coach Rene Miramontes. Women's Division I
Number one seed Stanford takes on Boston College in a semifinal match this Friday, December 3. Stanford advanced with a 5-0 romp over Florida State. Former Slammer FC players Christen Press and Mariah Nogueira scored the first two goals for the Cardinals. Notre Dame plays Ohio State in the other semifinal match. Women's Division II
UC San Diego advanced to the Division II semifinals with a 1-0 victory over St. Edward's of Texas. The Tritons will next play St. Rose of Albany, New York on Thursday, December 2.
