|Swansea City AFC and VC Fusion Team Up with Cal South Coaches Association to Present "Behind the Scenes at an EPL Club" Specialty Clinic Event |
July 12, 2012 (Fullerton, CA) - The Cal South Coaches Association, in partnership with Swansea City Association Football Club of the Barclays® (English) Premier League and the Ventura County Fusion of the PDL, will host a specialty coaching education event at Oxnard College in Oxnard, California on July 27-28, 2012.
Titled "Behind the Scenes at an EPL Club," the two-day program will consist of several sessions targeted to give registered participants a unique chance to understand what it takes to coach, train and play in one of the most revered soccer leagues in the world. Field training sessions on both days will take place at Oxnard College, while classroom sessions will be held at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel in Ventura.
The clinic will be held in conjunction with Swansea's international exhibition appearance against the Ventura County Fusion on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Oxnard College Stadium. The clinic event and exhibition game are part of Swansea's 12-day North American promotional tour, which will also include games against the Colorado Rapids (July 24) and the San Jose Earthquakes (July 31) of Major
Sessions during "Behind the Scenes at an EPL Club" will be taught by several members of the Swansea City AFC coaching staff, including their newly appointed manager Michael Laudrup, the former Danish football superstar, best known for his lengthy and prolific tenure with the Denmark National Team and for winning a combined five consecutive La Liga titles with Spanish clubs Barcelona
(1990-1993) and Real Madrid (1994). Laudrup scored 37 goals in 104 international appearances for his national team, and served as team captain for 28 matches in 1994-1995. He retired as a player following his appearance in the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. Laudrup was appointed manager of the club on June 15 as part of a two-year contract.
Swansea's coaching techniques are highly regarded amongst their peers in the English football world. "Any youth coach… should look at how they [Swansea] are playing," said Harry Redknapp, the former manager of the Tottenham Spurs. "We should be… encouraging kids to play that way and pass the ball, because it is a fantastic way to play. You have to work that hard
against Swansea. They pass the ball really well and make it really difficult for you. They have done an amazing job there."
Members of the recently formed Cal South Coaches Association will get first crack at registering for this special event. The cost for the event will be $100 for Cal South Coaches Association members and $200 for non-members. Each registration will also include a shared one night stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ventura, CA on Friday, July 27th, 2012. Further event details and registration
information can be found through this link: http://cysa.affinitysoccer.com/eventmanager/public/event.asp?calid=5577997.
Coaches who have yet to join the Cal South Coaches Association, but are interested in taking advantage of the lower event cost for members, should be aware that a membership to the Coaches Association only costs $50 a coach, and also gains them a year's membership into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America at the same time (itself an $85 value).
