Cal South's Young Olympians Program
Overview
Started in 2007, the Cal South Young Olympians Program was created to introduce parents and players to the Cal South/US Youth Soccer Region IV Olympic Development Program and Youth National Team Programs. Nike Soccer sponsors this program each year.
Age Group
The seasonal year (January 1 to December 31, each calendar year) for 2010 players is the birth year 1998. Club soccer in Cal South has approximately 12,000 kids playing soccer at this age.
The age of the players selected to the Young Olympians Program will be one calendar year younger than the youngest age group in the Cal South Olympic Development Program.
Selection of Players
- Players are scouted at National Cup and State Cup.
- Only 80 selected boys and girls will receive a letter inviting them to participate in the program.
- Player recommendations are not accepted at this age level.
- All players are released at the conclusion of the cycle and are re-scouted the following season.
Fees
- $50 will be paid on the first training weekend.
- $295 will be paid if the player is selected to attend the Young Olympians State Development Camp that will be held at the Thacher School in Ojai.
- Girls Camp dates: Wednesday, June 16 through Saturday June 19, 2010
- Boys Camp dates: Sunday, June 20 through June 23, 2010
Player Responsibilities

- Wear issued NIKE training gear at all Cal South events.

- Check in with ODP administration at the beginning of each training session.
- Submit all completed paperwork and fees.
- PLAYERS, not parents, are expected to communicate with age group coaches and ODP administration.
- Players will be evaluated ON AND OFF THE FIELD AT ALL TIMES
- Remember the importance of school. You cannot achieve your dreams without an education!
- Devotion to the Game - players who have selected soccer as their sole competitive activity typically represent this level.
Parental Commitment
Cal South asks that you be sensitive to the pressure that most players feel when participating in these events. Your positive encouragement towards all players, at all levels of state team functions, is appreciated. Please limit your contact with coaches/selectors during these events. Cal South appreciates the time and commitment parents make on behalf of the players. Make sure your league registrar has your correct name and current address.
Donations are important as it allows all players to participate in the program.
