CAL SOUTH PLAYERS MARK THE DIFFERENCE IN US U-17 WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM WIN IN FIRST WORLD CUP GAME

Cal South’s Kiara Pickett, Ashley Sanchez, Kate Wiesner and Karina Rodriguez helped lead the U.S U-17 Women’s National Team to a 6-1 win over Paraguay in their first group phase match of the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan. Aside from the win, Sanchez, a regular in all Women’s National Teams, was named Player of the Match.

So Cal Blues was well represented through Rodriguez and Sanchez, the latter scoring her first goal of the tournament, as well as providing an assist to Eagles SC’s Pickett in the 69th minute. Pickett also earned an assist early on in the game, serving Civana Kuhlmann for the second goal of the match. Slammers FC’s Weisner assisted in the third goal, also to Kuhlmann, in the 49th minute.

So Cal Blues goalkeeper Hillary Beall and defender Kennedy Wesley were among the 18-player roster for this match.

The US will now have to prepare to face Ghana, who fell 5-0 in their first match of the tournament to Japan. This match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday at 6:00 AM (PT).
