June 16, 2013 (Honolulu, HI) - Thirty-seven teams from Cal South will continue their quest for a national championship title on Monday as three days of round-robin preliminary matches begin in Honolulu, Hawaii at the 2013 US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships. This year's edition of the Far West Regionals will take place from June 17-23 in Honolulu's Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
All sixteen champions from this spring's Cal South National Cup competition will take part in the tournament, along with seventeen teams who won their spots via their efforts in both the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 editions of the Far West Regional League. Finally, four wild card teams are included to create the full complement of Cal South attendees at the event.
Preliminary matches will take place Monday through Wednesday, June 17-19, with each team in each age bracket playing three matches. Following a rest day and a chance for the teams to take in the beautiful sights of Hawaii on Thursday, quarterfinal matches are Friday, June 21, and semifinals are Saturday, June 22. The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Region IV champions will be crowned following the finals for each age bracket on Sunday, June 23.
Cal South teams U13 through U19 who win the Far West Regionals will then represent Cal South and Region IV in the US Youth Soccer National Championships in Overland Park, Kansas from July 23-28, 2013.
