Fullerton, CA (May 2, 2013) - Some of the top Olympic Development Program teams in the country will converge at Ventura College over Memorial Day weekend (May 24-27) to participate in the 2013 Cal South Pro+ Invitational. For the third year running, ODP teams from several other state associations, including Cal North, Colorado and North Texas, will take part in this showcase which will give top players in the 2000 age group an opportunity to be scouted by U.S. Soccer
national staff and U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV coaching staff.
"The Cal South Pro+ Invitational has and will continue to be the premier event which focuses on identifying talented players in the youngest elite age group for our youth national teams," said Steve Hoffman, Cal South's Director of Coaching Education and Player Development. "Without a doubt, many of the future stars of the game will have played in the Cal South Pro+ Invitational when they were just coming up."
The Invitational is focused on training both on the field and in the classroom, and with very high levels of play set for the teams. Guest speakers scheduled to appear at the event are Eric Wynalda (U.S. Soccer and Cal South Hall of Fame member) and April Kater (U.S. Soccer Women's Head Development Coach).
In addition to the out-of-state teams, Cal South will have four teams participating -- two Girls 2000 and two Boys 2000 teams. While the games will be very competitive, the event is not considered a tournament in that no champions are decided. The games are meant purely for training and identification purposes.
A complete schedule for the 2013 Cal South Pro+ Invitational will be announced in the new future. The rosters for the four Cal South teams participating appears below.
