Cal South National Cup & Sports Authority State Cup

There is less than one week left to register for the Youngers brackets for Cal South National Cup (U12-13) and Sports Authority State Cup (U9-U13). The registration deadline for the Youngers brackets is Friday, December 7, 2012.

Cal South National Cup has been held annually since 1978, and is the primary springboard by which Cal South teams can advance through the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Champions at the National Cup (U12-U19) move forward to the US Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in June; champions there (U13-U19) advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships in July 2013. This will mark the first time that the U13 age group will be able to compete for a US Youth Soccer National Championship. The cost for teams entering the Cal South National Cup is $745.

The Sports Authority State Cup is once again split into two separate divisions: Governors and Presidents. The registration fee for the Presidents Division is $665, while the fee for Governors is $565. The largest youth soccer tournament in the world, Cal South's State Cup competition has been held annually since 1978. U13-U17 champions in the Presidents Division advance to the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Championships in June; champions there move on to the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Finals in July.

There are very specific guidelines about which division of State Cup your team can play, so please check out the Play Level Guideline Chart at www.calsouth.com/state-tournaments/. Some of these specifics are:

State Cup Governors Division:

Open to all teams playing in a Cal South Sanctioned League in the Bronze division, or equal, or lower, including all recreational and Signature League teams in the U9 through U16 age groups. You will also find links on that page which will take you to full information about each of the Cup competitions or take you to registration pages for each event.

State Cup Presidents Division:

1. In the Under 9, 10, 11, 18 and 19 age groups, Presidents division is open to all teams playing in a Cal South Sanctioned League in all play levels.
2. In the U12 through U17 ages, the Presidents division is open to all teams playing in a Cal South Sanctioned League in Silver Elite division, or equal, or lower. The Champions in the U13 through U17 age groups will represent Cal South in the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Regionals. Cal South teams U14 through U17 who win the Region IV Presidents Cup will represent Cal South and Region IV in the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup National Finals
3. Gold and Premier teams or equal in the U12 through U17 age groups must play in the Cal South National Cup.

About Sports Authority State Cup

The largest youth soccer tournament in the world, Cal South's State Cup competition has been held annually since 1978, and has also been known previously as the Cal South Open Cup. Sports Authority partnered with Cal South to present State Cup beginning in 2011. In 2009, champions in this competition advanced to the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Championships for the first time. In 2010, the State Cup competition was broken into two separate divisions: Governors and Presidents. Only the champions in the Presidents Division (U13-U17) advance to the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Championships in June; champions at that competition then move on to the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Finals in July.
