LANCASTER, CA (May 16, 2011) - Seven more championship teams were crowned this weekend as the semi-finals and finals for the 2011 Cal South National Cup in the U15 through U17 brackets were held at the Rancho Capistrano Soccer Complex in San Juan Capistrano on May 21 and 22. The finals match for the Girls Under-14 age group was also held on Sunday, May 22.

The Under-17 girls of Legends Futbol Club captured their second straight National Cup title by out-shooting the Slammers Futbol Club, 5-4 on penalty kicks after the game ended regulation and two overtime periods tied at 2-2. The San Diego Surf were the most successful club over the weekend in terms of total championship trophies. Their Under-16 girls' side knocked in 4 penalty kicks versus Legends FC Breakaway's 2 to win a title match that had ended knotted up at 1-1,and which completed a tough string of four straight matches up to the finals for the Surf girls which ended either in overtime goals or penalty kick victories. The U15 Surf boys, meanwhile, captured their title by shutting out Arsenal FC, 2-0.

The U19 age group is scheduled to begin play in the National Cup on May 28, which will eventually lead up to the U19 semi-finals and finals weekend on June 11-12. All U19 play is currently scheduled to take place at the Blast Soccer Complex in San Bernardino.

Cal South National Cup champions (U12-U19) move on to the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Far West Regionals to be held in Boise, Idaho from June 20-26, 2011. Regional champions in the U14 to U19 age groups move on to the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series National Championships to be held in Phoenix, Arizona from July 26-31, 2011.
