HONORING OUR BEST AT THE 2011 CAL SOUTH AWARDS BANQUETFebruary 25, 2011
February 25, 2011 (LONG BEACH, CA) - Six hundred attendees packed into the Hyatt Regency Ballroom on Saturday evening, February 12 to see the 2011 edition of the Cal South Awards Banquet. Produced in conjunction with Soccer Nation Expo, the Cal South Awards Banquet is the organization's annual opportunity to say "thank you" to its best and brightest, including players, coaches, volunteers, parents and alumni. In addition to the friends and families in attendance to honor the award recipients, numerous luminaries from the sports world were in the audience, including Asher Mendelsohn and Herb Silva of the US Soccer Federation, Orange County Great Park Corporation CEO Mike Ellzey, Wayne Wilson of the LA84 Foundation, and several of the acclaimed coaches taking part in clinics and sessions at Soccer Nation Expo, including Robbie Earle, Efraín Flores, Klaus Pabst, Fernando Piña Rivera, James Parry, Tony Waiters, Randy Waldrum and Dr. Dan Freigang. Also in attendance at the show were representatives of many of Cal South's partners and sponsors, including Nike Manager of Elite Youth and College Soccer Sports Marketing Monica Rigali, Sports Authority Community Marketing Manager Katie Feingold, Chivas USA Youth Soccer Programs Manager Alex Topete, and LA Galaxy Group Sales Manager Chris Zepeda. On the awards front, Tad Bobak, the popular and amazingly successful coach for the So Cal Blues program, was named as an inductee to the Cal South Hall of Fame.The recently formed Recreational Task Force was honored for their work in attempting to expand Cal South's efforts in the recreational arena, and the commissioners for each of Cal South's seven districts handed out awards to some most deserving honorees. The capper to the night was the introduction of the six Cal South teams that captured national championship titles at three different levels in 2010: US Youth Soccer National Champions BU16 Slammers FC, GU17 So Cal Blues and GU18 Laguna Hills Eclipse; US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Champions GU14 PVSC Exiles Black and GU16 South Bay Force Blue; and the United States Adult Soccer Association Women's U23 National Champion Eagles Soccer Club.
