LA WOLVES CLINCH THE 2017 CAL SOUTH ADULT STATE CUP MEN’S DIVISION TITLE WITH WIN OVER FC LONG BEACH

July 10, 2017

Cal South affiliate LA Wolves FC clinched the 2017 Cal South Adult State Cup Men’s Division Championship after earning a 4-2 win over FC Long Beach on Saturday night at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium. Earlier that day, Moreno Valley FC earned the Third Place spot after defeating San Nicolas.

After three months of competition, it all came down to Saturday night when the top four Men’s teams in Southern California came together to find out who would be the Cal South Adult State Champion. Moreno Valley FC and San Nicolas kicked off the evening as they met in the Third Place match.

Moreno Valley took the lead in 20th minute of the game, but their happiness didn’t last long as San Nicolas tied it up just 10 minutes later. Moreno Valley would go to halftime with a breather after retaking the lead just before the end of the half.  As the second half came around, Moreno Valley knocked in two additional goals, and so would San Nicolas for the 4-3 final.

The main match between the Wolves and FC Long Beach would also have four goals for the winning side. Early on in the game, the Wolves took the lead over Long Beach, extending their advantage on the scoresheet to 2-0 right before the end of the first half. In the second half of the match, the Wolves were still celebrating their third goal scored in the 69th minute when they would knock in the fourth just two minutes later for the 4-0 final.

After the game, Cal South alum and LA Wolves head coach Eric Wynalda praised his team for everything they gave to get to where they finished the 2017 Adult State Cup.

"I think for the team, for the club, it's been a long journey. I think the guys are very proud; it was a good game in a very difficult tournament. We were in a lot of playoffs, so I think emotionally, we're all very happy," Wynalda said. "It's always good to win, but it's always about the players. I think there's a lot of sacrifice, but it's been an honor to coach them."
