TWENTY-NINE CAL SOUTH TEAMS SELECTED TO THE 2016-17 US YOUTH SOCCER NATIONAL LEAGUE

August 04, 2016

Twenty-nine Southern California teams will be proudly representing Cal South at the 2016-17 US Youth Soccer National League that will begin later this year. The 29 teams are among the 256 teams that will be participating this upcoming season. Cal South stands with the most teams than any other state association.

The 10th season of the National League will kick off with the girls playing their first Fall Showcase Dec. 1-4, while the boys will play Dec. 8-11, both in Wilson, N.C. Half of the 256 teams will participate in one of the two other soccer events being held in Orlando, Fla., alongside the Disney Soccer Showcase. And just like last year, the final weekend of play of the season will be in Las Vegas, March 10-12 for the boys and March 17-19 for the girls. US Youth Soccer is set to announce the full schedule in the coming weeks.

The top two teams from the U-15 and U-19 division, as well as the division winners in the U-16 through U-18 age groups will automatically qualify to the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Championships that will once again be held in Frisco, Texas from July 25-30.

Last year, Cal South also had 29 teams participating in the National League, with nine Southern California teams earning their berth in this year’s US Youth Soccer National Championships. SLA Nomads, Fullerton Rangers, Santa Barbara SC and FC Golden State represented the Boys side, and Carlsbad Elite 97/98, Legends FC 98, Beach FC 98 Academy, Carlsbad Elite 99 and Albion SC White represented the Girls side.

Of those teams, Santa Barbara SC and Carlsbad Elite 99 finished as National Champions in their respective categories, while FC Golden State, Beach FC and Carlsbad Elite 97/98 finished as Finalists in their age group.

Teams interested in participating may do so applying for a slot, but must have participated in a US Youth Soccer recognized Regional League during the 2015-2016 seasonal year. Returning National League top eight teams from the previous season, as well as Regional League Champions automatically qualify to the National League.
