Heading to a Tournament? Is It Sanctioned by Cal South?
If not, then you need travel papers!
Does the tournament you are looking to attend carry the seal of quality, the Cal South Sanctioned Tournament seal? Even though a tournament or event takes place within the Cal South boundaries, it may not necessarily be sanctioned by Cal South. To find out if the event you are planning to attend is a Cal South Sanctioned Tournament, pleaseclick here. If you don't see your event on our Sanctioned Tournament listings, then you will need to apply for travel papers in order to prove that all players are covered by our insurance. Information and instructions on travel papers can be found byclicking here or you can contact our office atbbuell@calsouth.comfor more information.

Traveling out of the country as a Cal South team or group?
Per the USSF, you need to apply for foreign travel papers at least 30 days prior to your departure!

It's not as scary as it sounds. Just log in and apply for Cal South travel papers, then fill out the appropriate USSF forms and mail them to the office along with a $50 check made out to USSF. We will then approve your paperwork and forward it on to USSF for their approval. Information and instructions can be found byclicking here.

Padded Goals in Soccer?
USSF Renders Decision, Chooses to Not Approve Their Use
An issue has recently arisen regarding whether, under the Laws of the Game, the goalposts and/or the crossbar may be padded. The suggestion has been made that this could be considered a safety issue, that such padding is commercially available, and that it could be applied in such a way that the dimensions of the goal structure remain within the requirements of Law 1. Despite these understandable concerns and good intentions, US Soccer chose not to approve the use of padding on goalposts or crossbars in affiliated matches for the following reasons (click here to download USSF memo):

  • The Laws of the Game do not include padding of the goalposts and/or the crossbar as part of the equipment used on a field.
  • The Laws of the Game already provide for the referee's obligation to not permit a game to be played if, in the opinion of the referee, the goal is dangerous in any way.
  • An unpadded goal structure is not inherently dangerous.
  • Padding could hide defects or dangerous goal conditions and interfere with the referee's evaluation of the safety of the goal.
  • Padding on the goal structure could interfere in unpredictable ways with the play of the ball.

League and Gaming Circuit Applications Deadline: April 1st, 2008

An annual event that is absolutely critical to your league's operation.
A reminder to all Cal South leagues, clubs and gaming circuits that your annual League or Gaming Circuit Applications are due in to the Cal South Corporate Office no later than April 1, 2008. The 2008 Gaming Circuit Application is intended for "inter-league" gaming only, as opposed to "intra-league" play. League Fall Season 2008-09:
A Quick Snapshot of the Billing Process

Even though the Spring '08 and Fall '08-'09 seasons have now been opened, it's important to review one very important Cal South business rule. Regardless of the season, an "accepted" player will generate an invoice. Make certain that when you click on "Save Application Changes" with the purpose of clearing a player, that this is the exact action you want. If you have any questions regarding the clearing process or would like to know more about the billing process, please feel free to contact the League Account Management Department at 714.451.1513.

------------------------------------------------

CORIS Migration & Working with Applications:
Be Sure to Scrub Your Teams of Any Non-Returning Players

As you complete your seasonal migration in CORIS, make certain that you identify any players that will not be returning to your league for the current season. This generally applies to any competitive teams with players that are in an "assigned" status. The process of "rejecting" the player's application will permit other leagues and clubs the opportunity to register the player easily and clearly. If you have any questions regarding the migration process and/or the clearing of applications, please feel free to contact the League Account Management department at 714.451.1513.

Moreover, registrars must test out no later than June 30, 2008. If you have any questions regarding the certification test, please do not hesitate to contact the League Account Management Department at 714.451.1513.
