CAL SOUTH NIGHT WITH THE L.A, GALAXY & DAVID BECKHAM!
Sunday, September 16, 2007 at the Home Depot Center
Yet again, Cal South has teamed up with the Los Angeles Galaxy to bring an evening of incredible soccer to Cal South Members. This year's Cal South Night will take place at the Home Depot Center on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 5pm, when the Galaxy will take on defending MLS champions, the Houston Dynamo. There will be a special on-field presentation where Cal South will honor the three teams and coaches that won at the US Youth Soccer National Championships
in July. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming announcements regarding special Cal South Member discount pricing, as well as updates on special player appearances. Cal South invites everyone out to enjoy this special night of soccer with David Beckham, Landon Donovan and the Los Angeles Galaxy!
THANKS, CAL SOUTH COACHES!
In appreciation for all of its hard-working coaches, Cal South produces an annual Coach's Gift as a thank you for the dedication our coaches have shown to youth soccer. The gift this year will consist of a pair of specially designed Cal South Captain's Armbands. This year's gift was created to help introduce and instill leadership skills in all of our players, and comes packaged with a special instruction card to help guide coaches in choosing the
right players to captain their team. In a departure from years past, Cal South will actually be mailing this year's gift out to all of the head coaches in our database, so if you have been having trouble getting mail from Cal South, please check your CORIS profile to make sure your address information is correctly updated. A limited supply of armbands will also be available to be picked up at the Cal South Corporate Office at the end of September. It's
just our way of saying, "Thanks, Cal South Coaches!"
THE POWER OF CAL SOUTH TOURNAMENT SANCTIONING
Don't let this happen to your Tournament!!!
The power of Cal South sanctioning for Member Tournaments, and the promotional marketing benefits this sanctioning brings, has never been so evident. With nearly 10,000 sets of eyeballs hitting the Cal South Sanctioned Tournaments webpage on a daily basis, the national marketing efforts and the direct mail marketing efforts of sending the Cal South Tournament guide to all Coaches & Administrators this past
spring has the average tournament team participation numbers for Cal South events on the rise.
On the opposite side of the fence, a few previously sanctioned tournaments decided to cast their fate by sanctioning their events through US Club Soccer and have paid where it hurts most - the bottom line. One tournament, which had 120+ teams the previous year, ended up canceling their event this past weekend, while the other tournament went from 420 registered teams when they were Cal South sanctioned tournament to 220 under other sanctioning this summer.
That is easily over $100,000 dollars in lost revenue - ouch!! As most tournaments are large fundraising efforts for the local club or league, don't let this happen to you! The power of Cal South Sanctioning has never been stronger.
Registrars: A way to make printing cards easier for administrators!
Registrars, please remember to put your administrators in the CORIS system before they go through the Live Scan Process. This will make the process of updating much more efficient. A card can not be printed unless the administrators are approved in the CORIS system. Also, please look in the State League and in the 2006-2007 season before entering the administrators. Please remind your administrators to fax over their live scan forms once they have
completed the process. The fax number is 714.441.0715. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Lisa Wolfs at 714.451.1520 or email@example.com.
Dates Set for Soccer Nation Expo 2008: January 5th & 6th, L.A. Convention Center
For those that have not heard yet, just a reminder as to the impending dates for next year's Soccer Nation Expo. The event is set to take place on January 5th and 6th, 2008 at the L.A. Convention Center. For the first time, Soccer Nation Expo will expand to two full days of soccer excitement and celebration, with plenty of events and soccer-oriented fun for the entire family. As in years past, the 2008 Nike Awards Banquet will take place on Saturday night,
January 5th at the L.A. Wilshire Grand, so please make sure to get your tickets once they have been announced as being on sale. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be taking place on Sunday, January 6th in various rooms throughout the Convention Center. Further details will be announced as they are confirmed. We'll see you there!!
IMPORTANT REMINDER:Transfer Roster Freeze in effect as of August 1st
Team rosters were frozen at midnight, August 1st to all but "new" players and those who were granted a waiver. Requests for waivers to the Roster Freeze period will be heard by the appropriate District Commissioner and granted only under limited circumstances. If further clarification is needed, please click here to look over Cal South Rule 1.4.3.
REMINDER TO REGISTRARS!
All leagues with a fall playing season agree to have all player data entered and "accepted" into CORIS by September 1st, or at least a week prior to the first regularly scheduled game. Failure to comply with the following terms of service may be subject to the following but not limited to: a) Field Liability Certificates will be either denied or revoked; b) CORIS access will either denied, revoked or severely limited; or c)
Loss of league sanctioning.
Get with the program and provide your families with the Member ID Card!
Please remember that the other half of each player's Member ID cards must go to the parents. Many Cal South families don't realize that when they signed their child up to play soccer that they became members of one of the largest membership associations in the country. Member Benefits aside, and more than just a receipt, the card will help your parents realize that they are covered by insurance and an easy way to show proof of registration in Cal South.
Having a smart and professional-looking Cal South card will only serve to help your parents view your league as operating professionally and legitimately.
Did you pick the right season for your travel papers?
Make sure that you pick the same season for your travel papers as your player and admin. cards! If you are using player cards from the 06-07 season, you need travel papers for the corresponding season. If you are using player cards for the 07-08 season, you will need the paperwork for that season. Click here for more information.
Coaches: Have you updated your member profile lately?
Many coaches aren't aware of just how much they can do inside their member profile on CORIS. Use your old password (or get a new password, if you must) so you can login to your member account. Once you are there, you can see and work with your team's roster, print out reports, update personal information like new addresses or emails… even easily apply for tournaments, State Cup or coaching courses, and pay for them all online. If you haven't
taken the time to check out your member profile online, it's time that you did!
Field Liability Insurance Certificates for 07/08 are now available
League Presidents can now access field liability insurance certificates through ecerts online. All presidents should have received an email last week explaining the process. These certs are effective from 9/1/07 to 9/1/08. For more information, contact Nancy Wagner at 714.451.1550 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reminder from the Cal South Coaching Education Program
Now is the time for your league to schedule a YM1 or YM3 coaching course to ensure your league has coverage for the up and coming season. Please keep in mind it is mandatory that all recreational coaches hold a YM1 or YM3 level license when coaching a team registered with Cal South.
Did you move over the summer?
We hate to see our mail "returned to sender" with the price of postage going up yet again. Make sure you keep getting copies of Cal South Soccer Magazine and other important items from Cal South by going onto your Cal South Member Profile in CORIS and updating it with your new mailing address. While there, please be sure to update any new email addresses, too.
Cal South Board of Directors Updating Bylaws
Bylaws govern our association, so it is important to continuously review and update them. The Cal South Board of Directors made some key date changes and operational wording changes to streamline nomination of officers and election of District Commissioners. Check out the changes by clicking here. Also, the current bylaws can be reviewed here.
The changes will mostly go unnoticed, in that leagues will be receiving nomination and election notices as usual, but the deadlines will be different. Just follow the instructions in the notices as usual.
