• 6/16/13 UPDATE - Three Cal South teams -- BU14 Downtown SC Black, BU16 NADO and GU14 Platinum FC -- won titles this morning at the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in Boise, Idaho.
June 16, 2013 (Boise, ID) - Three Cal South teams -- BU14 Downtown SC Black, BU16 NADO and GU14 Platinum FC -- won titles this morning at the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in Boise, Idaho. Cal South sent 17 teams to the competition, held from June 12-16, and all 17 teams made it through the first three days of preliminary competition into the quarterfinals round. Nine Cal South teams then secured spots in the semi-finals on Saturday, with five surviving into Sunday morning's finals round.
The tournament featured 120 teams that had won their respective State Presidents Cups from 12 different State Associations within US Youth Soccer's Region IV area – Alaska, Arizona, Cal North, Cal South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The Presidents Division champions in the 2013 Sports Authority State Cup in the U13 through U17 age groups represented Cal South in this event, along with seven other teams filling wild card spots. The three Cal South teams that won titles at the Region IV Presidents Cup will now represent Cal South and Region IV in the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup in Auburndale, Florida from July 11-14, 2013.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play for a national title against teams of similar abilities. The Cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
Cal South recently donated over $218,000 in subsidies and entry fee payments to 54 youth and adult teams attending regional competitions taking place in June, including the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in Boise, Idaho (June 12-16), the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii (June 17-23), the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) Region IV National Cup (June 7-9) and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (ongoing in numerous locations). The subsidies are meant to help ease the burden of traveling expenses to these events for the participating teams. To read the full donation press release, click here.
