Waiver Procedures (Effective 10/1/2010)
Candidates who wish to attend a "D" Course may skip the "E" Course by going through the waiver process.
Coaches with extensive soccer experience -- coaching and playing -- can move on to higher-level courses without going through the lower-level courses if they meet the prerequisites listed below.
Applying for a waiver as a National Team or professional player:
- A candidate must have at least five (5) years youth coaching experience AND three (3) years playing experience with U.S. National teams or three (3) years professional playing experience.
- The applicant must submit proof such as copies of contracts or verification by the owner of the professional team on team letterhead, along with the completed Cal South waiver application form or other proof of verifiable playing experience.
If approved, a candidate can either be required to take a "E" written test or attend a "D" course.
"E" and "D" coaching from other US Youth Soccer State Associations will be honored.
The State Director of Coaching Education will evaluate all waiver requests on an individual basis.
Applying using other certificates/licenses:
If a candidate holds an:
- NSCAA National Diploma or higher, or
- AAF/CIF 36-Hour Coaching Certificate, or
- AYSO Advanced National Certificate,
then a copy must be provided along with a completed waiver application form with all fees paid. At that point, the State Director of Coaching Education will review and allow a candidate to do the following will be allowed to attend a the USSF "D" Course.
Equivalency:
- NSCAA National, Advanced Diploma or higher = Waiver into "D" course /"E" written test.
- AAF/CIF 36 hour Certificate 36= Waiver into "D" Course.
- AYSO National Certificate (40 hours) = Waiver into "D" Course.
- UEFA Licenses = offered a "UEFA" Test Out.
The Cal South State Director of Coaching will evaluate all foreign certifications and licenses.
Procedure to Apply for a waiver/equivalency:
- Must complete a Cal South Coaching Waiver application (download here). Waivers will not be reviewed without application.
- Twenty dollars ($20) processing fee. Make checks out to Cal South. Waivers will not be reviewed without payment.
- Complete resume with soccer playing and soccer coaching experience.
- Copies of any of the licenses listed above and letters from all officials.
- If all necessary documents do not accompany the waiver application, the application will be denied and the candidate will lose their application fee.
- A candidate that is granted a waiver into a "D" course must PASS/Ready the practical and written tests to obtain a National "D" license or State "E" license.
- If a candidate fails the "D" course, they will be awarded a Cal South "E" license.
Fees:
- "E" Written Test = $90
- UEFA Written Test-Out = $30
- "D" Course = $180
- "D" Re-Test course = $25
For candidates that possess an "E" or "D" license from another US Youth Soccer State Association or from the USSF, the following applies:
- A National License ("C," "B," "A," or National Youth License) = Must go through Cal South Live Scan Risk Management (Cost: $15)
- Cal South will evaluate all USASA or USASA State Association coaching licenses for a waiver.
- Cal South will update the coach's online CORIS profile free of charge
