Roy Carlson is the current Vice-President of Youth of Cal South, first being appointed in 2010 and then elected in 2011. He first started coaching in 1982 as a girls' coach for San Diego United, and later with Mesa Soccer Association, where he was also a member of their board and a past president. He also served as a goalkeeper coach for RB Nomads and as a manager and assistant coach on his son's teams. Roy has also served as a staff coach and scout for the Cal South Olympic Development Program and has attended the last five World Cups.

Roy is an attorney with Milberg & DePhillips, P.C. in Cardiff by the Sea, California and was admitted to the California Bar in 1986. Roy graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a BA in Political Science and from Thomas Jefferson School of Law with a Juris Doctor.

In 1990 he began coaching a women's team where he met his wife, who hoped by marrying the coach she would earn a starting position. They have one son who played for various teams in Cal South and at Santa Clara University.
