COLLEGE SAMPLE LETTERS

In continuing with our college search process, we have now reached the point where you know what colleges you are interested in and it’s now time to contact them. The following is a sample introduction letter that will help guide you in creating your own letter.

Dear Coach Drake:

After speaking with my club coach and getting my family’s approval, I would like to submit for your review and consideration my resume and credentials as a potential team member of the Hoyas. As I have begun to narrow my college and career pursuits, I have always dreamed of attending a college as prestigious as Georgetown University and am hopeful that my academic and athletic abilities will afford me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of going to your college and playing for a coach as well respected as you.

I am currently a senior attending James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas and play competitive soccer for the Texas Lightning. My GPA is a 3.0 and I will be taking the SAT in December. Academically I have had to work hard to master certain subjects, I am one of the thousands of kids who are diagnosed with dyslexia. I am fortunate to have exceptional memory since I must read and re-read materials to assist me with my comprehension. Athletically, my coach says I have an exceptional ability to “read the game” and having played on the Varsity team since my freshman year, he said I am one of the most skilled players he has ever worked with.

While I realize you will receive many letters from interested players, I don’t believe you will find anyone as motivated and driven as me. My goal is to play college soccer and graduate with a meaningful degree. I am the type of person who can be counted on both in the classroom and on the field.

Given the opportunity and chance to prove myself, I believe I can contribute to a program while earning the respect of you and my team. I will call you over the next few days to make sure you received my package and hopefully talk with you about your program and player needs for the up coming season. I would appreciate any information you can send me regarding your program, along with scholarship and financial aid that might be available at Georgetown University.
