Next Step… Registering With the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse
In order to participate in athletics and receive athletically-based financial aid, you must register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse and meet eligibility standards. If you wish to register on-line with the Clearinghouse, you must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number and a VISA or MasterCard. If you received a fee waiver for the ACT or SAT exam and are requesting a waiver of the Clearinghouse fee, you may indicate this in Section VI. NOTE that your registration will not be processed until the Clearinghouse receives a waiver confirmation from your high school counselor. If you are seeking a waiver, you should talk to your high school counselor to determine if you are eligible for the waiver. If so, your counselor will need to submit a waiver confirmation for you. High school counselors who have been issued a secure PIN may submit such confirmations through the High School Administrators section of the website. Individuals unable to file electronically, or who do not want to provide a Social Security Number, should complete a paper version of the Student Release Form available from your high school counselor or the NCAA.
HOW CAN YOU REGISTER? Go to www.NCAAClearinghouse.net and following the simple instructions. There is a fee of $50.00 to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse – unless you qualify for a “Waiver” and the waver must be provided by your High School Counselor.
Important Note:
Transcripts and test scores must be sent directly to the Clearinghouse. These documents cannot be faxed or submitted online. There are many reasons why a student's academic document could be determined to be "unofficial" and therefore unacceptable for Clearinghouse purposes. If a document is not received in an official high school envelope or is received with the student's return address, this document could be marked as "unofficial." "Official" high school documents must be received in an envelope easily determined to be from the school and on high school stationery. Test scores must either come to the Clearinghouse directly from the testing agencies (selection of the Clearinghouse can be made using code "9999") or on an "official" high school transcript, normally using the testing agencies' labels. Please note that Student Score Reports and test scores taken from a Student Score Report cannot be used by the Clearinghouse. Here is an example of what is required to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse:
To register with the Clearinghouse, you will need to provide the following information (* indicates a required item):
Student and High School Information
Section I: Student Information
Section II: High School You Currently Attend (If you were Home Schooled for any portion of grades 9-12, use code 969999.)
Section IV: Select a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
After you submit your registering form, you can check on the status of your file from a touch-tone phone or at the NCAA Clearinghouse website at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. To access the status of your record, you must provide your 4-digit personal identification number – the PIN # is your unique identifier. Please record this number for future reference to your record.
Section V: Select an Output Option
The NCAA Clearinghouse can provide communications to you either by email/web or paper format. This would include correspondence and certification reports. Email/web correspondence will require that you have a valid email address listed in Section I of the form.
Section VI: Payment $50.00 and Fee Waivers (for eligible students)
Are you eligible for a waiver of the Clearinghouse fee? Please read this carefully.
You are ONLY eligible for a waiver of your initial-eligibility certification fee if you have already received a fee waiver (not a state voucher) for the ACT or SAT. If you have not been granted a fee waiver by ACT or SAT, you are NOT eligible for a waiver of the certification fee. If you are seeking a waiver of the Clearinghouse fee, you should confirm you are eligible before submitting this form by checking with your high school counselor. If you complete the Web Student Release Form and check that you are eligible for a fee waiver, your high school counselor MUST submit an electronic fee waiver confirmation for you.
NOTE: If you are applying for a Clearinghouse fee waiver, your forms will remain unprocessed until an executed waiver is received from your high school counselor. If you are NOT applying for a Waver of fee, just follow all the instructions provided on the NCAA Website. All student-athletes interested in playing for an NCAA Division I or II college or university are encouraged to sign up for the NCAA news letter – the service is FREE and covers many compliance issues, rules and eligibility.
